Gilles Le Bigot
Guitar (Lowden L, Trameleuc, Takamine nylon
«fretless», Tampura)
Originating from Saint-Brieuc (Department Côtes d’Armor), he adopts the guitar
in 1972 at the age of 13. This instrument leads him naturally to listen to
musics from different origins : from the Rock’N’Roll to the baroque folk, and
then to Jazz music.
During the big celtic wave of the 75’s, he discovers the celtic music through
groups such as PANXTY, BOTHY BAND, CLANNAD and nearer from us ALAN STIVELL.
He then discovers the Fest-Noz, at first as a dancer, and later as a musician,
accompanying the group of singers Les Pillotouses (1976), and then playing with
the group GALLORN (1978). Self-taught man, these two experiences lead him to
adopt the open tuning and to develop a guitar playing adapted to the Breton
music. Since the 80’s, this style has gained widespread acceptance and a lot of
guitarists have adopted it. Since a few years, Gilles also dedicates time to do
arrangements and to compose.
