Loig Troël
(diationic
accordion)
Born on
the 21th of July 1980 in Brest in a family of musicians, Loig Troël
discovers the diatonic accordion as he was around four years old, taking
back his uncle’s accordion to familiarize himself with the instrument.
In 1986, he had a serious road accident ; following it, he couldn’t
anymore use his left hand. However, Loig did not give up the accordion
and kept on playing with his right hand. In 1998, he took lessons with
Roland COUM, with whom he started to appear on stage during Festoù Noz
in the Northern Finistère.
In 1990,
Loig started to enrich his repertoire, based on traditional dances from
Britanny, Ireland and Scotland, with compositions. He then gave more and
more public performances.
At the
same time, he studied the scottish drum within the Bagad
landerneau, winning in 1995 the contest of young soloist drum player of
Menez Meur at Hanvec.
With two
musicians from the Bagad, he created the group YOD KERC’H, with which he
played during two years by the side of Lucie MARICAL, harpist of the
Conservatoire of Brest and Paris. In 1995, he accompanied Yvon ETIENNE
on the album “Chansons trad pour demain”, and then met Jean-Luc ROUDAUT
with whom he played during three years and recorded for the
Breton-speaking children.
In 1996,
Loig carried off the diationic accordion prize of Kan ar bobl, and in
1997 the prize of the Per Guillou contest in Carhaix (contest based on
the “mountain gavotte”).
In 1997, he created with the percussionists ABALIP and Henri LOQUET the
group AN DAOU ZO TRI, recorded the album called “DANVEZ” (Matters),
combining accordion and percussions.
In 1998, he stood in for a musician during six months in the group
DIWALL, from which sprang his collaboration with Franck FAGON,
clarinettist with whom he played in duet in clubs and festoù noz. At the
end of 2000, Gilles LE BIGOT, guitarist, joined them.
In 1999,
Loig joined the group SKOLVAN, combining melody and accompaniment. The
group released in 2000 the disc “CHEÑCHET’N EUS AN AMZER” (Times are
changing).
In 2002, Loig recorded his second album with AN DAOU ZO TRI, with the
participation of the guitarist Ludovic MESNIL and of the bassist
Stéphane DE VITO : “C’HWEZ AN HOUARN”.
